Just because we're already midway through the year doesn't mean there's plenty that can happen to have 2023 become a bummer. Don't throw the year away without ensuring it's as productive as possible every step.
For June’s Coffee and Conversation focused on Chapter 8 of "The Discipline of Now." - You are controlled by what you aren't aware of.
Understand your personality, and you'll know why you procrastinate
There are multiple assessments out there when it comes to discovering what your personality traits are. Being aware of them is a key asset, but it's also important to note that it's not just about understanding your personality but using it to your advantage.
You'll want to be honest with yourself with these assessments, as that will be more beneficial than trying to fit a certain mold. An identity assessment will start to outline your areas for improvement. Dr. Sharon gives an example as she shares one of her stories:
“I hated going into a room with people. I'm talking about networking the way we did before the pandemic, in person networking. I hated that. But then you begin to learn. You're not trying to meet everybody in the room. You want to identify the right people in the room, right?”

Own and understand what your Power Times are
It is crucial to know when your power times are. These are the times of the day when you are at your most productive, and you can get the most done in an energetic fashion. This can be in the morning period, or you can be a night owl and do your best work through the evenings. Adjust your schedules according to those times, and make sure they are dedicated to working.
Preserving your energy when you're not within your power times is important. These periods can be a drain on your energy. Typical examples of energy drains are when you're tasked with frivolous requests that take you away from the core of your business or work. These can even occur at any time, such as plowing through meeting after meeting with no discernable outcome.
Know what your procrastination triggers are and tread cautiously
When entering the world of entrepreneurship, you're going to have a lot more on your plate and a lot more distractions coming your way. We need to be aware of what sets us off to not accomplish tasks or put off work. It can be everything from a wordy email that derails the topic to feeling overwhelmed and tired because you're not working during your power times.
These are known as procrastination triggers, and you need to identify what yours are. Common procrastination triggers are:
Boring.
Frustrating.
Difficult.
Stressful.
Ambiguous.
Unstructured.
Unrewarding.
Meaningless.
Once you discover your procrastination triggers, you should track when they occur. Eventually, you want to train yourself to avoid procrastination triggers, as you don't need to delay what you're working on. If you fall into the void of procrastination, then the likelihood of you being able to achieve your goals and targets on time is reduced.
Understand and be aware of who you surround yourself with.
Who you surround yourself with has a major impact on how you will act. Your environment needs to align with your goals, which means surrounding yourself with positive people. It's not about surrounding yourself with like-minded people but simply those who have a vibrancy and energy that syncs with yours. This way, you're going to always feel motivated and positive.
In the past, we've been taught that people are the way they are, and we need to accept everyone. That's fine, but we don't need to surround ourselves with those we aren't aligned with or with low energy. They can latch on and drain your energy very quickly.
This type of negativity can become a dream killer.
Self-awareness helps with your blind spots. You will have a lot that you need to face in your day-to-day so it's important to take a step back, ensure you're as prepared as possible, and be aware of those distractions that can stall your dreams coming through.
